Dr. Justin Michaels, O.D. graduated with a B.S. degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California at San Diego and went on the earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry. During his clinical training, he received several awards including the California Optometric Council Achievement Scholarship, the Dr. George Deane, Jr. Memorial Leadership Scholarship, the AOA Student Leadership Award, the Vistakon Student Involvement Award, the Marco Professional Scholarship, and the CA Optical Laboratories Assn Auxiliary Scholarship. As a student he completed clinical rotations at the VA Hospital in Las Vegas, the Barnet Dulaney Eye Center in Arizona, and the Indian Health Service within the Navajo Nation of Arizona. In 2007 Dr. Michaels and Dr. Vu purchased South County Eye Care and in 2009 opened Eye Care For You Optometry.
He has 3 children and enjoys running, weight lifting, hiking, and traveling.
Dr. Josephine Vu, O.D. graduated with a double major in biology and psychology from the University of California Irvine. Following her graduation from the Southern California College of Optometry, she completed an additional residency studying Ocular Disease at the VA Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Vu has three young children and enjoys balancing hard work and raising kids.
Dr. Vu is an astute clinician and was involved in ophthalmic research with Irvine-based Acufocus, Inc. She has a passion for patient eye care and brings to the practice unsurpassed knowledge in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Additionally, Dr. Vu occasionally has optometric students from Western University of Health Sciences rotate through her office to learn about patient care and business practices.
In her spare time, Dr. Vu likes to play the piano, read, watch movies, and vacation in sunny places with her growing family.
Dr. Hawkin Lui received his Doctor of Optometry degree from UC Berkeley School of Optometry where he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and president of the Private Practice Club. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA and studied abroad at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Lui also speaks Cantonese Chinese and is conversational in Mandarin Chinese. He completed primary care and ocular disease externships at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals in Fresno, CA and Tacoma, WA and is certified to diagnose and treat glaucoma.
Dr. Lui moved to Irvine in 2016 to pursue private practice ownership. He has a strong interest in caring for patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. While in optometry school, he traveled to Vietnam to provide eye exams and glasses to impoverished children through the international organization Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. He enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and basketball.
